The most useful difference between a rail transfer and an air transfer is the journey home. A plane checks in within a window; a train leaves to the minute. A train missed at Moûtiers on a winter Sunday is not easily recovered: services into the valley are concentrated.

How we set the time for the return

Against your train’s departure, allowing for three things people often forget: how long it takes to leave your accommodation when a vehicle cannot reach the door, the state of traffic coming down the valley on a changeover day, and the time needed to unload, cross the forecourt and reach the platform carrying skis.

We would rather propose a slightly earlier departure and explain why, than hold to a flattering schedule that leaves no margin at all.

“Short” is relative

Méribel belongs to the commune of Les Allues and occupies the valley of the same name. That valley is long: a property at the top and one near its entrance are not the same drive from the station, even though both say “Méribel”. The full address is therefore needed, including for a journey reputed to be short.
