Val Thorens closes the Belleville valley at 2,300 metres — the ski area’s official body presents it as the highest ski resort in Europe. For a transfer, the decisive fact is not the record: it is that the resort is a terminus. You reach it after Saint-Martin, then after Les Menuires, and the road does not continue beyond it.

The final stretch is the valley’s most exposed to winter conditions: whatever disrupts the lower valley propagates to everything climbing behind it, and Val Thorens is what is behind. How close a vehicle can bring you

The resort regulates traffic and parking in its core. The useful question is not only where you are staying but how close you can be dropped: that depends on your address and the access rules in force, and it is checked before departure from the full address — not at a barrier with your cases on the pavement. Winter and Saturday

Winter equipment is required in Savoie from 1 November to 31 March. On Saturdays the valley changes over in a single day, and the French traffic authority rates February Saturdays red, with official advice to avoid the RN90 between Albertville and Moûtiers from 9am to 7pm.
