In practice that opens two ways of reaching Méribel from Lyon: by road the whole way, or rail then road. Neither is better in the abstract. It depends on your landing time, on how much luggage and equipment you have, and on who is travelling with you.
What tips the decision
Road the whole way removes every handover: your cases never leave the boot, nor does your ski equipment, and nobody carries four suitcases down a staircase. With young children or a lot of kit, that is decisive.
Rail then road can make sense if your arrival time lines up with a train and your party travels light. It does impose a luggage transfer, and a missed connection is not recoverable.
