Lyon → Méribel

One feature of Lyon-Saint-Exupéry is worth knowing: the airport has its own TGV station, Lyon-St-Exupéry-TGV, on the airport site. It is the only one of the gateways we serve where the air arrival and the rail arrival happen in the same place.

In practice that opens two ways of reaching Méribel from Lyon: by road the whole way, or rail then road. Neither is better in the abstract. It depends on your landing time, on how much luggage and equipment you have, and on who is travelling with you.

What tips the decision

Road the whole way removes every handover: your cases never leave the boot, nor does your ski equipment, and nobody carries four suitcases down a staircase. With young children or a lot of kit, that is decisive.

Rail then road can make sense if your arrival time lines up with a train and your party travels light. It does impose a luggage transfer, and a missed connection is not recoverable.

At the other end

Méribel is not a commune of its own: it belongs to Les Allues and occupies the valley of the same name. That valley is long, and its sectors are not all reached in the same place. The full address, not the resort name.

What the figures on this page are worth

The distance and journey time shown are measured on the public road network, from the Terminal 1 drop-off area at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry to the resort’s public reference point — its tourist office — never to your accommodation. The time is free-flowing driving, excluding winter conditions: it places the journey, it does not commit it. Traffic, weather, changeover Saturday and your final address all move it — your flight sets the departure time.
