Saint-Martin-de-Belleville gave the commune its name before it became Les Belleville. It is the first of the valley’s three arrivals, the lowest, and the only one that is a village in the ordinary sense — old buildings, narrow streets, and a layout that was never drawn for large vehicles.
That difference is real and it matters. Arriving at Saint-Martin raises different questions from arriving at Les Menuires or Val Thorens: less exposure to altitude, more constraint on vehicle size and manoeuvring.
