This journey links two opposite worlds, which is exactly what makes it interesting to organise. At one end, a connecting hub with two terminals and a TGV station. At the other, a mountain village of old buildings whose streets were never drawn for large vehicles.

Vehicle size is decided at the start, not on arrival

A party arriving through a major hub often travels with more luggage: connecting flights, longer stays, personal equipment. The instinct is then to ask for the largest vehicle available. At Saint-Martin, that instinct can backfire: a large vehicle cannot reach everywhere a smaller one can.

And then the departure

The return from a village to a major hub is the most exposed leg of the trip, because it has a deadline: check-in for your flight. We set the margin against that deadline rather than an average journey time — and we account for the fact that an early start from an old village is not the same as pulling out of a resort car park.

Saint-Martin in its valley

Saint-Martin-de-Belleville gave the commune its name before it became Les Belleville. It is the first of the valley’s three arrivals and the lowest — less exposed to altitude constraints, more to constraints of size.
