The first chapter

Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux is the closest of the region’s stations to the Trois Vallées, and the pairing is simple: a direct TGV from Paris into the centre of town, then about 1 h 20 of road to Courchevel in free-flowing conditions. The driver waits at the main exit with a name board; the pick-up area is a short walk from the concourse.
The road is straightforward: the A43 then A430 down the Combe de Savoie to Albertville, the RN90 — free 2×2 lanes — to Moûtiers, then the D915 and D91A climbing to your level of Courchevel, from Le Praz and La Tania up to 1850. The distance is measured to the tourist office at Courchevel 1850, never to your accommodation.
On changeover Saturdays the whole Tarentaise rotates in one day; the slow section is the RN90 between Albertville and Moûtiers, while the station concourse itself stays calm — one reason a winter TGV into Chambéry often beats a saturated airport. The vehicle is timed to the train’s actual arrival, and the climb adjusts to the day’s conditions.
