Chambéry railway station

Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux is a proper city station: direct TGVs from Paris arrive in the centre of town, without the seasonal crush of the terminus stations higher up the valley. The driver waits at the main exit with a name board; the pick-up area is a short walk from the concourse. For travellers who prefer a fast train to a mountain airport — or whose flight lands at Lyon or Geneva at an awkward hour — Chambéry is often the most composed way into the Tarentaise.

The station feels rotation Saturdays on the road rather than in the concourse: the slow section is the N90 beyond Albertville, while the hall itself stays calm. That asymmetry is useful — on a Saturday, arriving by TGV into Chambéry often beats the same arrival into a saturated airport, because the only queue left is the traffic everyone shares.

The difference from an airport transfer is measured in minutes: ten from doors to departure, no baggage belt — and the city-centre position means the road to the mountains starts immediately, past the lake at Aix or straight down the Combe de Savoie towards Albertville and Moûtiers.
