Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the rail terminus of the Tarentaise, and Val d’Isère is one of the main reasons people step off there: about 32 km and 40 minutes separate the concourse from the village in free-flowing conditions. The driver waits at the concourse exit with a name board — the station has a single concourse — and the car is loaded a few steps away.
The road is a single story: the D902 up the Isère valley, through Séez and past Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, then the climb past La Daille into the village. The distance is measured to the Val-d’Isère town hall, never to your accommodation; the exact drop-off — from La Daille to Le Fornet — is set at booking.
In season the station receives direct TGVs from Paris and the Saturday ski trains from London, which arrive together; the vehicle is timed to the train’s actual arrival, and above the town the D902 carries the day’s rotation traffic, so winter journey times are prepared for rather than promised.
